Morvund & Vundmor, The God of Punishment

Fire Domain, Law Domain, Good, Evil

Morvund has two forms. When he is in the underworld he is seen as a specter of flame. His body made out of a charcoal or coal substance that is aflame with fire. This side of him was believed to be created from the primal flame of the underworld. This side of him is extraordinarily zealous against all who end up in the underworld as he punishes all who come down there. Unlike the other gods of the underworld he loves to hunt after the worst souls in the underworld. Whenever he gets angry his body bursts into flames. He wields adamantine chains to whip the occupants of the underworld for punishment and to force them into submission. Whenever he is extremely angry he can light metals on fire and uses them for branding the souls that he wardens over. It's quite a common occurance in the underworld to see many souls with permanent lacerations on their bodies from the cracks of Morvund's chains. Morvund while in the underworld is commonly seen as the head of the underworld, except when Corvendus travels to the underworld. Even though he is the head he doesn't make most decisions in the underworld as his zealous nature makes him constantly nomadic in his search for souls to punish.

Whenever Morvund comes to the mortal realm he adopts a more human-like appearance. He in all circumstances looks like a tall human with the skin tone of southern herthalians. Who has jet black hair and piercing green eyes. The most notable difference from humans is his pair of wings that sometime protrude from his body. Feathery and gray his wings look ragged and torn as if suffering intense battle. In this form he constantly is known to be a trickster who plays with human souls and plays with their very sins.

Morvund is commonly seen in a mixed light, some see him as an evil demon that is worse than the other evil souls in the underworld created just to punish the lesser souls. While others see him as a punisher of all that is evil and a bringer of the flame to a fight.

The Good

What lends credence to the claims that he is a punisher of evil and not a demon is he wears the wings of angels above when he is on the mortal realm. His normal coalish figure erodes and is defined like a normal humans blending in with other humans as if he rightfully belonged. For as he walks amongst man few know he is the god who punishes all.

The Bad

The people who see him as an evil god cite his clear hellish form. His body is made of coal and aflame, while he lauds over hell, hunting souls like prey and searing and torturing the souls he encounters. To them this does not make a good god. They believe his human form is a trick to trick good humans to condemn themselves to the underworld, they see him as a trickster who tries to bring down humanity through sin and languish rather than a playful figure.

The Fallen

Others combine the two theories together, since he has wings could he have been an angel? Perhaps he has fallen and gone to the dark side, and now lives his life in hell punishing and watching over the sinful he inspired. For they believe his actions are of a punisher and redeemer but his body is of an evil amalgamation burned to the coals of his body caused by the punishment of other gods. These believers think that one day he will return born anew to the halls of Arthul where he will find his true purpose amongst the gods with his body restored.

Morvund does not have a holiday nor month for celebration, few believe he is a good god. The few that worship Morvund worship him in small cults and sects quiet from the rest of Herthalian society where his most vocal followers stir up havok and burn down villages in the name of Morvund. The even more seldom few that see him as a good god offer him prayers and blessings that one day he will return from his enternal punishment and banishment from the halls of Arthul.
